We’re only a few days into the new year, yet Top Gear have announced the Ford Fiesta ST as their car of the year for 2019 ????
Like the rest of the motoring community, we’re quite (read very) partial to a 2nd gen Fiesta ST; the combination of that torquey engine, “tri-pod” handling and an overall eagerness that was hard to ignore. It was a car that wanted you to drive it hard, EVERYWHERE! Surprisingly though, this over eagerness never tired and instead made even the most mundane of drives (mainly the daily commute) fun. It was something to get up for in the mornings.
Next comes the difficult 2nd album (technically 3rd, but the gen 1 ST never really made a lasting impression) and the early indications are good, very good. This new 3rd gen version has taken the previous car as it’s yard stick and made improvements in all areas. Improving on the already sublime and acclaimed 2nd gen is music to our ears. With the ever-growing pursuit of power and BHP, the new Fiesta ST keeps things refreshingly old school. It’s exactly how a hot hatch was and always should be; fast, fun and cheap!
